HOST: Welcome to our podcast, 'Unlocking the Power of Social Change'. I'm your host today, and I'm excited to be joined by Dr. Rachel Kim, the program director of our Certificate in The Economics of Social Movements and Change. Dr. Kim, thanks for being here!
GUEST: Thanks for having me. It's great to be on the show.
HOST: Let's dive right in. Can you tell us a bit about the course and what students can expect to learn?
GUEST: Our Certificate in The Economics of Social Movements and Change is designed to equip students with a deep understanding of the economic drivers behind social movements. We explore the complex relationships between economics, social movements, and change, and provide students with the knowledge and skills to analyze and address the economic and social inequalities that fuel social change.
HOST: That sounds incredibly valuable. What kind of career opportunities can our listeners expect to have after completing this program?
GUEST: Our graduates are poised for careers in policy, advocacy, research, and social entrepreneurship. They'll be able to inform and shape policy decisions, drive social innovation, and lead movements for change. We've had graduates go on to work for government agencies, non-profits, and private sector companies, all working towards creating positive social change.
HOST: That's really exciting. What sets this program apart from others in the field?
GUEST: Our program offers a unique blend of theoretical foundations and practical applications. Our students engage with leading experts, explore real-world case studies, and develop a nuanced understanding of the complex relationships between economics, social movements, and change. We also provide opportunities for students to work on real-world projects, applying the concepts and skills they've learned in a practical way.
HOST: I love that. Can you give us an example of a real-world project that students have worked on in the past?
GUEST: One project that comes to mind is a group of students who worked with a local non-profit to develop an economic empowerment program for low-income communities. The students applied the concepts they learned in the program to develop a comprehensive plan that addressed the economic and social inequalities facing these communities. The plan was implemented by the non-profit, and it's been incredibly successful.
HOST: That's amazing. What advice would you give to our listeners who are considering enrolling in this program?
GUEST: I would say that this program is perfect for anyone who is passionate about creating positive social change. If you're looking for a career that aligns with your values, and you're willing to put in the work to make a real difference, then this program is for you. Our students are a diverse and talented group, and we're always looking for people who are eager to learn and make a positive impact.
HOST: Thanks for sharing that, Dr. Kim. Before we go, is there anything else you'd like to add?
